What is The Church of The Flying Spaghetti Monster?

History and Origin

The Church of The Flying Spaghetti Monster (CFSM) came to being in 2005 after Bobby Henderson, now recognized prophet of the CFSM, published a satirical open letter to Kansas State Board of Education; he expressed his concerns about the decision of the board to permit the teaching of the theory of Intelligent Design as an alternative to the theory of Evolution in public schools. In the letter, Bobby Henderson also made a formal request to the board to also teach the science based Intelligent Design theory of the CFSM to address his concern about students hearing only one theory of Intelligent Design; practically forcing the Kansas State Board of Education to teach every type of religious genesis theory.

Since then, the Pastafarian movement started and the CFSM was created. The CFSM is still becoming recognized by more and more countries worldwide; some examples of countries that officially recognize the CFSM are the Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland and just this May, Australia. However, the CFSM is still not legally recognized as a religion in the US as of now.
